The Akhal-Teke developed in the dry, hot climate around the Kopet Dag. Generations of careful selection preserved its lightness, endurance and ability to travel great distances.
The head is refined, the neck long and the limbs lean and strong. Bay, chestnut, black, grey and pale coats occur, often with a golden or silver sheen.
